Gary Johnson Gets Into It at Paul Fest

Gary Johnson obviously was energized by all those young and fervent Ron Paul supporters in Tampa at Ron Paul Fest and did a really good job describing a pretty radical position. (He has Ron Paul to compete with after all!) I listened a couple times and probably missed whatever too-statist-y thing he had to say, but over all sounded REALLY good and a message that the majority of Americans would vote for - if they bothered to vote. And that even a slim majority of those who actually vote would support. Even fat government bureaucrats have to worry about losing their jobs and NOT finding one in the private sector now a days. But of course the elitist media barely gives Gary Johnson the time of day. Most stories emphasize wondering if he'll attract Ron Paul supporters or cost Romney any states in the election. All that nonsense to get a paragraph in here and there explaining cogently why big government and its big wars are the problem, not the solution!

Everybody Needs Their Own Fire Service

Those wuzzie Republicans Romney-Ryan really are on the same page as Obama when it comes to "you didn't build that." They won't recognize Americans' the freedom to privatize and/or cooperatize just about everything - not to mention to secede. Just like Obama, they agree the government should be fighting fires. They believe that people must be coerced into letting government do so many services, because people are just too incompetent to organize their own solutions to problems, be it private companies that work together against large fires, volunteer community efforts that do the same, etc. Why don't they just take over the hair dressing and food production industries - how do we ever manage to cut our hair or obtain food??

And probably even more than Obama, Romney-Ryan can't wait til they have the power to START FIRES by burning down the lovely city of Tehren, and the rest of Iran, and killing millions of innocent women and children. So it costs 10 trillion dollars, they can always get rid of those pesky welfare programs. (At least til they remember most people only put up with the warfare state because of the delusion it's really a welfare state.) They all make me SICK!!!

Here is the full context, from Obama's speech in Roanoke, Va.:

"There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me -- because they want to give something back. They know they didn’t -- look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something -- there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there.

"If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business -- you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.

"The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together. There are some things, just like fighting fires, we don’t do on our own. I mean, imagine if everybody had their own fire service. That would be a hard way to organize fighting fires.

"So we say to ourselves, ever since the founding of this country, you know what, there are some things we do better together. That’s how we funded the G.I. Bill. That’s how we created the middle class. That’s how we built the Golden Gate Bridge or the Hoover Dam. That’s how we invented the Internet. That’s how we sent a man to the moon. We rise or fall together as one nation and as one people, and that’s the reason I’m running for President -- because I still believe in that idea. You’re not on your own, we’re in this together."

Protect/Free! Assange -Manning Music Video

Bradley Manning did a great service to the world sharing information about U.S. crimes with Wikileaks and Julian Assange. As a feminist, I have a feeling Assange did act like a cad. And, assuming the women didn't catch some horrific disease, they certainly deserve at the least an apology - at most a financial settlement. But there is no doubt that the Swedish decision to prosecute, the Swedish refusal to question him in England, the Australian govt's lack of action, and the not very secret US indictment are politically motivated, not from any concern about abuse of women. He has been "punished" more than enough!! Below an excellent music video on the topic.

Happy Hiroshima Day...

It is nearly Hiroshima Day in Japan. Sixty-seven years since the United State unnecessarily dropped the (relatively small) 16 kiloton nuclear bomb on the city of Hiroshima and and a 21 kiloton bomb on the city of Nagasaki, killing 100,000 (give or take 40,000) people.

To remind people of what we are celebrating - or mourning for those who still have a human soul - below is a video of five American militarists (and a cameraman) standing directly below a 2-kiloton atomic bomb exploding 10,000 feet directly above their heads. What jolly times. We're number one!

The Fox News story about this points out: Today, 55 years later, the seemingly safe operation may have had some serious side effects: all six members of the group have had cancer, with four dying of it... Ooops!!

Last night I got overly concerned about the same Reuters article posted all over the internetz: "Super volcano", global danger, lurks near Pompeii. Yup, the race is DOOMED...

Either cause it destroys itself with nukes or it takes too few precautions to prevent destruction (nukes and meteors) or it doesn't ensure a few million survive catastrophe (meteors and supervolcanos). Not to mention all those hundreds of nuclear power plants that melt down and spew massive amounts of radiation in all of the above scenarios. But at least the testosterone poisoned boys get to play with their military toys, so it's all good, right??
